Description
Moko is a derivation of the god "Moko" from the West African tradition. The term "jumbie" or ghost was added by the freed slaves. The Moko Jumbie was thought to be a protector of the village. It is a stylized African masquerade mounted on sticks. The stilt walker plays on stilts 10 to 12 feet high. His costume consists is sometimes a brightly coloured skirt or pants, jacket and elaborate hat. (Framed, oil on canvas, 2009)
